In November 2021, we received the gift of two pre-loved laptops from Engineering Good, a Singapore non-profit that empowers inclusivity for disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, such as persons with disabilities and low-income families, through sustainable engineering and technology solutions.
Engineering Good generously donated the refurbished laptops for Borderless360’s Refugee Pre-General Education Development (GED) Preparation Programme in Thailand. Today many refugees are experiencing disrupted education due to forced displacement, COVID and other reasons.
Our English preparation Pre-GED classes help restart their education and prepare for GED examinations. Currently, we have a small pilot group of refugee students who have recently undergone English language instruction in preparation for the English language tests such as the GED Reasoning through Language Arts. In these difficult times, access to devices and connectivity is crucial in allowing students to continue their learning. This donation has helped increase the number of students participating in the programme. More refugees are now able to get a chance at obtaining educational certification. Thank you, Engineering Good!
This pilot online course is part of our Borderless360 Inclusive Education Initiative (IEI) for refugees and those in similar circumstances. This initiative will create a progressive new education model for refugees and host community members in Thailand. Our approach will support access and scholarship for those who are disadvantaged while presenting a holistic educational approach based on community. It will increase access to education for disadvantaged young people while growing positive relationships between refugee and host country youth, helping to decrease xenophobia and misunderstanding as a critical step towards advancing progressive change.
